Backyard Buddies

I found this little guy in my garden and made a video for my kid. Yes, I used her real name. Now that she is grown I still send her interesting videos of the critters in my yard.

I am fortunate to live in an area surrounded by parklands and rivers and lakes that are shared with all kinds of wildlife and semi-urban wildlife. Today I’m going to share who I share that space with.

My dog Alice. She isn’t exactly wild but she lives with me and enjoys the great outdoors. She also has sense enough not to run through my flowers.

These happy campers come almost every night. Yes I put out apples and nuts for them. The treats keep them off of my deck. Sometimes a skunk or two will join them. Last week a bobcat came by but didn’t jump the fence. I haven’t seen many coyotes lately. Everyday I see deer, hawks, eagles, and loads of other birds.

Did I mention squirrels? There are a lot of squirrels, including a new batch of 2023 squirrel babies.

The photo above is of Squirlie Maman giving me the what for before her babies were born.

Of course we can’t forget the turkeys.

If you look in the background of the next photo you can see some deer. These two young bucks have been coming around for the past two years. They’re adorable.

That back fence is where the ghosts sit and play their banjos and guitars. Check out other posts if you think that is weird.

Above is the view at dusk. During the day I can hear children playing at the school a few blocks away, fucking leaf blowers, the never ending construction projects on the two houses that burned down, and every kind of power tool my bored neighbors who have to prove they are real men can find. But when the sun starts to go down it is quiet and beautiful.

Sometimes I celebrate the calm and beauty with a glass of wine and a book.

Of course Oscar would just prefer I stay with him 24/7 be it outside or inside.

Have a great week everyone. Stay safe. Be kind. Embrace creativity. Listen to your kids. Talk to them. Hug them. Go for a walk outside. And kiss a Vampire – you’ll thank me for it later.
