Pumpkins, Vampires, and Home Sweet Home

October is FINALLY here. Today I’m in Long Beach California and in a few minutes I’ll be heading out to a pumpkin patch with my daughter and her boyfriend, and my husband. We’re down here on a weekend visit.

When I get back my house will have been repainted! Woo hoo. The last painter totally destroyed my home. After three years the paint all peeled off and it looked like a haunted house. I kid you not. We’re Vampires but not ghouls, and there is no way I’m living like someone out of a bad horror movie. Aside from the peeling paint who wants a bunch of clueless under dressed teens and a guy with a chainsaw running around your house? Not me. Plus my cats would not be pleased. The chainsaw would terrify my poor dog. She is already afraid of the vacuum cleaner and most power tools.

We went from blue paint, which was ok, but not my favorite, to a yellow that will better fit the farm house style. Plus there aren’t any other yellow houses on the street. Best of all it is a HOA approved color.

Yes, HOAs can be nightmares, but ours in only here to make sure nobody paints their house Halloween Orange, has 5 families living in a house, and gently remind people to keep their yards clean. The real reason is that most of the homes are on private roads that need to be fixed every once in a while, and to maintain a fence that borders a park. The fence is just a decorative open low wooden fence that keeps people from driving in the field and over the cliff.

Soooooooo, I can’t wait to decorate my YELLOW house up for Halloween, both inside and out. My husband Teddy always gets a wonderful assortment of pumpkins and giant gourds. I’m going to make a new wreath. Inside I’ll get out my black glass pumpkins and assorted cute black cats and day of the dead dolls. And of course there will be bats.

We’ve also decided where we are going to hang our bat house. Yes, a house for live bats. Fun fun fun. I love to watch them when the sun goes down and they start to flutter around outside looking for a dinner of bugs. They’re small and adorable.

I have to go, but I’m back, and still here.

Also to my WordPress friends, there are a lot of scammers out there going after bloggers. Beware. Now THAT is scary.

Stay safe. Have fun. Talk to your kids. Spend time with your dogs and cats. Check in on those who are elderly, alone, or might need extra help. And kiss a Vampire – you’ll thank me for it later.
