He saw her
Not with the adoring eyes
That used to gaze upon
Her perfect everything
But with horror
When she said those
Words so casually
“I do not want your child around me anymore”
She said she wanted
The boy gone
After the wedding.
He drove home
Then told her
To move out
Then he went outside
Where the moon
Lay low on the horizon
Golden and huge
And he howled.
His son ran to him
Like a pup
He held the boy
Tight in his arms
Then licked his face
And their tails wagged
Knowing that in the morning
She would be gone.
