Juliette’s Book Club: Summer Escapes to the Stars and Back

Sometimes when the weather reaches triple digits it is hard to be motivated to do anything except maybe nap or read. We all know summer reading also means an escape from the real world, especially in these weird times.

Today, for your reading pleasure, I’m going to quickly list some of my favorite Science Fiction books, or books that are just kind of different. Keep in mind this is my short list. I’ll have more Science Fiction soon.

Venus on the Half-Shell by Kilgore Trout

I love this book. Venus on the Half-Shell is a science fiction novel by American writer Philip José Farmer, writing pseudonymously as “Kilgore Trout,”

Hitchhiker’ s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

If you haven’t read this classic you need to do so SOON. It is brilliant. It will change your life. Bring a towel and DON’T PANIC.

Weirder Tales by WPaD

I absolutely love this anthology. I’ve read it three times. Yes, a few of my stories are in there, but OMG the rest are brilliant. I am so honored to be part of this. I hope you’ll love this book as much as I do.

The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey

I love this book so much. It is the ultimate Science Fiction AND Romance novel.

Strange Adventures in a Deviant Universe: WPaD Science Fiction by WPaD (Writers, Poets, and Deviants)

This is another wonderful anthology I’ve had the honor to be involved with. The cover art by Jason Kemp is just amazing. The stories are smart and great science fiction.

Strange Adventures in a Deviant Universe – WPAD Science Fiction.

Red Darkling by L. A. Guettler

Take a wild ride through the universe with smuggler Red Darkling and her cat. This book is smart, funny, and it the perfect summer escape.

If you like any of these books feel free to add them to the NPR Science Fiction Poll!
