When I was 20, I had a memorable, cross-country road trip with my mother, my best friend from HS, my sister, and the family dog. We lingered in the southwest, where my mom had lived when she was young. When we passed through Santa Fe, I said I wanted to return there to live.
Five years later, Mary and I arrived in town in a volkswagen van and stayed for a year, getting married in the process, before economics drove us back to CA.
