Welcome 2023

At this moment just about everyone I know is living in the year 2023. I’m in Hawaii so it is still December 31, 2022. 5:16 p.m. to be exact.

We’re at a friend’s house in Oahu just hanging out right now. He has been a lovely host and highly entertaining. In 2023 make sure you appreciate and stay in contact with friends – old and new.

Today we wandered through botanical gardens. Yesterday we went to the beach on the far north of the western side of the island. We’re on the eastern side right now and have seen so those beaches, visited a coffee plantation, and met a very nice cat at a stunning Buddhist temple. I would have taken the cat home had we been in California – just for the fact that we live in California and it is easier to travel with cats within your own state.

The late December days in Hawaii have been warm during the days, cooling off in the evenings to the low 70’s or high 60’s. At home it is flooding. I was texted by a family member asking if our house sitter would check and see if we needed sandbags. Luckily we don’t.

Here in Hawaii was have our own weirdness to contend with. We came back from the gardens our the dog who lives here is nowhere to be found. There are explosions that rival any war zone in noise and frequency. Good news. We found the dog. She was hiding in a closet.

A good vacation is one that gives you a sense of calm. That is what I’ve had here. My only problem is that I’m on a different time schedule with everyone else I know. It isn’t a Vampire thing. It is the fact that I’m a morning person and nobody else will consider moving until at least 10:00 am. Let me correct myself, until at least 11:30 am. So I’ve been reading, and walking the now found dog.

As for 2023, I have things I want to do. I have places to go, and people to see. My husband, children, and close friends and I will continue to try to solve most of the world’s problems despite the fact that the people in charge will do one of the following three things: 1) ignore us, 2) ignore us, 3) act as if we don’t exist. I’ll keep you updated on that one.

As the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean (and rises over the Pacific Ocean) the explosions are getting louder and shaking the house just a little bit more. I can hear at least a dozen different kinds of birds including chickens. While there are no mongoose here on this street, we’ve seen quiet a few of them. They are soooooo cute.

Happy 2023 everyone. Make resolutions if you have them. Don’t worry about keeping them. Stay safe. Stay sane. Talk to your kids. If you have little kids don’t treat them like adults. They aren’t adults. When you have kids you MUST adjust your world, not expect them to adjust to yours.

Ohhhh, just a second. We found the dog. She is ok. Thank goodness. Good dog Chloe.

I’ll be writing more about making New Year Predictions AND other things, but not right now.

Like I said, stay safe. Check in on those who might be lonely or need extra help. And kiss a Vampire – you’ll thank me for it later.

Happy New Year 2023.
