On the eastern shore of O’ahu I’m listening to the rain from the deck. It is just past midnight in the most isolated bit of land on the planet. That is the State of Hawaii.
We’ve stayed clear of most of the cliches and as usual tend to travel locally. That means we’re not at a big resort in a big city, or an all inclusive club. We’re on a street, with dogs, and homes, and a beautiful nursery with beautiful plants at the end of the road. There are also two churches on the street. Don’t worry, we won’t curse them or even visit them. There is no need to bother anyone, or feel hate for those who are not like us.
I’m being called away by the silence, and drawn in by it, and feeling calm. I only hope that the feeling lasts when I get home to the cold, and the flooding rain, and the nagging problems that should not even exist, but through no fault of mine do exist. For now I will enjoy this island surrounded by the ocean, and filled with flowers and friendly people.
As with everywhere the Vampire community is mixed. Only here they are all remarkably calm. I’ve heard that when the moon becomes full there might be a few Werewolves out running on the beaches, unseen by the K-9 dogs on the military bases nearby.
For now I’ll just say goodnight, miles from everywhere, on an island, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Aloha.

I never made it to Hawaii. But one day, I’d love to go there.
