Are there vampires on America’s Got Talent? My vampire kids want to know.

We were piled up like dogs on the couch tonight watching America’s Got Talent. There were some good acts but nothing that really made us say “WOW”.  Actually the dogs were great. We loved the dogs. We liked the couple in the weird white suits (she was so strong). The band with the guy they called “The Math Teacher” was odd and really good in a sort of overly layered and confusing way but the two singers had great voices – it is the kind of thing that could grow on you.

So my son asks “Are there ever any vampires on these shows?”

“I honestly don’t know. I don’t thinks so. I don’t see why not.” I answered. I mean if nobody knew we are vampires, but who would?

“How about dad? Dad you could be on it.” said our girl.

Teddy smiled and went into the kitchen to make some tea. “I don’t think so,” he told us.

“You’ve been playing the piano for 153  years.”

“That I have, but the answer is no. The answer always will be no.” he said.

After the kids went to bed Teddy sat in the living room on the red couch next to his baby grand piano.

“They have no idea,” he said to me all the frustration in the world in his voice.

I knew it was hard for him some days. He didn’t want to be a vampire. His family was gone. His life and dreams as a human, be it short, was what he was at the core.

“They love you, more than you’ll ever know.” I said.

“You know how much I love them Juliette. They’re my world. They were worth waiting a century for. I’m sorry. Sometimes…”

“I know love, I know.” I whispered as I nuzzled his neck.

He took my face gently in his hands and kissed me. “I love you. Let’s go to bed.”
